Domain Pawn FAQ's

How much can I borrow against my domain names?

We lend anything from £250 all the way up to £100,000

What type of domain names will you lend cash against?

We only lend money against .co.uk domain names, this is because we know the .co.uk market and can value the domain names more accurately. We do not lend money against what we consider to be Trademark domains.

What percentage of the value of the domain name will you lend?

That is an in-house secret that we wish to keep to ourselves and the percentages do vary depending on the sector that name fits, such as finance names may get a high loan to value percentage than sports related names.

How do you value a domain name?

We value the domain names much like anyone else who deals in domain names. We take a look at the available exact search data that people like Google provide, age of domain, backlinks to the domain, is it a generic? and many other factors.

What happens to the domain whilst it is subject to the loan against it?

Before we lend money against a domain name, we ask that it is transferred in to our details. This gives us security that the lender will not sell the domain name before paying back the loan. The details will be transferred into the ownership of our sister operation "Domain Services", We use the title "Domain Services" rather than "Domain Pawn" because people who have had a loan from us may want to keep it secret and confidential.

However no further changes will be made by us to your site, so you have access to the nameservers and email addresses at any time. This leaves you freedom to use your website as you wish and with who you wish to host it with.

Can I keep using the domain whilst it has money loaned against it?

Yes you can keep using the domain name to access your websites, all the emails and content will remain unchanged. Your site visitors will not notice any difference.

What happens if the money is not repaid on time?

Ultimately the simple answer is you will lose control and all rights to the domain name. However this does not happen straight away, if you miss a month's repayment you will be given a default warning (includes £10 penalty), if you miss 2 months repayments you will get a final warning of default (further £10 penalty) and if you drop 3 months behind, on the third month you will lose all access and rights to the domain name. Please be aware that on losing the rights to the domain name after 3 months, we have the right to sell the domain name at any time to a third party.

Also worth noting that if after 3 months of defaults, you lose your rights to the domain name. We will close the account and you will no longer owe DomainPawn.co.uk any further money, this includes any late repayment charges.

Can I extend the loan or apply for loans against other domains at the same time?

Unfortunately we cannot accept extentions to loans made against individual domain names, in reality it is just too difficult to keep track of the domain names value, the money loaned against it, the amounts already repaid etc. We may revisit this in the future, however at the moment it is not something we offer.

However you can submit as many names as you like, each domain loan has an individual account. In essence we lend money against a domain name and not the person. This means a person maybe behind with repayments on other domain names and still lend money against new ones.

What are the charges for lending money against the domains?

This varies from domain to domain but typical APR's are around 25% APR

Do I need to own the domain name?

Yes, because before we lend the money you need to be in a position to transfer the name to our holding account at "DomainServices.co.uk"

Can I repay the money early?

Yes that option is freely available and can be done at any time, please note that you will incur the following months interest. Apart from that there are no penalties for early repayment.
